YouTube Creators can now Quickly make Shorts from their Long-form Videos
A couple of months ago, Google combined YouTube Music and Shorts to help creators find music easier to use in their short-form content through its "Sounds from Shorts" playlist. Additionally, Google implemented another way to help make Shorts feel more lucrative and appealing to creators. This new feature has begun rolling out on Android and iOS with it becoming more widespread in the weeks ahead. The tool is only available within the YouTube app on iOS and Android devices. To help remedy this, the platform is releasing a brand-new tool to help YouTubers pull 60-second clips from their existing long-form videos and quickly create content for YouTube Shorts. One real interesting aspect of this new feature for YouTube's long-form video creators is that it provides an attribution to the source material. This could help creators add additional context or new updates to Shorts they make from older long-form clips. If a creator clips a 60-second segment from a longer clip for YouTube Shorts using this feature, YouTube automatically provides a link back to the original long-form video right within the Shorts Player. YouTube noted to Mashable that this feature is only available for the creator of the original piece of long-form content.
Hannah Warling, a YouTube creator who has already used this feature, believes Edit into a Short will help creators who usually upload long-form content become more familiar with YouTube's growing Shorts platform. But YouTube is still synonymous with its longer content and its well known long-form content creators. Not all songs will reach the 60-second cap, however, as some may still remain at the current 15-second limit. This raises the bar from the previous, stifling 15-second time cap for copyrighted tunes. It's not clear at the moment how much audio will be available for creators at the new 60-second cap. This newly expanded time cap has already begun rolling out for YouTube Shorts creators on Android and iOS, with the new feature becoming more widespread in the weeks ahead. YouTube is giving creators a little more leeway with using licensed music in their Shorts. A full minute of a song also means that creators can have the song of their choice throughout the entirety of their YouTube Short. This means that creators can have their favorite song playing for the entire duration of their short. Ideally, a bolstered catalog of music that Shorts creators can hop right into and use for the full duration of their content would be great.
YouTube recently announced that creators of Shorts will soon be able to hop into the Partner Program to begin taking a cut of ad revenue coming in when their content is viewed. Creators can also utilize all other YouTube Shorts editing features such as filters, text, and more.
